You've heard of a curse jar—when folks agree to pop $1 in a
communal container every time profanity escapes their lips—but have you
heard of a negative-body-image jar?
The ladies at Stylelist
are so fed up with hearing women around them talk smack about their own
bodies—you know, we all do it, "I'm so fat," "My stomach is so big from
lunch, I'm never eating again," and my personal favorite, "My calves
are bigger than my neck!"—that they've created this body image smack
talk jar.
Or, as they call it: the "I Promise To Stop Saying Negative Things About My Body Jar."

Or, as they call it: the "I Promise To Stop Saying Negative Things About My Body Jar."
Writer Anya Strzemien explains how it works:
The fine is $1 for every negative comment someone makes, with proceeds going to Girls Inc, an organization that promotes self-esteem and leadership skills for young girls. Within two minutes I had $2 in that jar. Was one of them mine? Sure. I never said I don't have moments of hypocrisy! I am, however, trying hard to curb this nasty habit, and I hope you'll join me. A recent study shows that when a woman engages in "fat talk," she may feel the effects of depression for several weeks afterward. Talk about a lose-lose scenario. What do you think about Stylelist's idea? Do you think using a body image jar like a curse jar would help cure you of your body smack-talking? Tell us in the comments!
